Blog Talk Radio Interview

by Sam McArthur on September 15, 2009

Yesterday afternoon I was interviewed by Louise Barnes-Johnston of Frontline Results on her Blog Talk Radio show. The subject of the show was Bing and SEO (Bing is the new Microsoft search engine). I speculated on what impact Bing may have in the future and the future of SEO, plus a bit about Google and the new ‘Caffeine’ algorithm Google is currently testing.

You can listen to the full recording here and also to the recording on the Blog Talk Radio show website.

My main concern about Microsoft’s deal with Yahoo is that there will be even less choice in search, there are currently 3 major players in search in the UK: Google, Bing & Yahoo. Once Microsoft seal the deal and begin to replace Yahoo search results with their own sometime next year, we’ll be down to two search engines. However, businesses need to start taking notice of Bing now and look at how their site is performing on it. If you currently have good results on Yahoo, those results will disappear overnight sometime next year. It’s also worth testing out Microsoft Adcenter (Microsoft’s pay per click platform, equivalent to Google Adwords). These ads will show on Bing and Yahoo and it’s currently much cheaper to advertise on Bing than on Google.

It looks like 2010 is going to be a very interesting year in search!
